Yoga made a profound and significant entrance into my life a year after I moved to Michigan from NJ. I was a stay at home mom with a 5 year old child and a one year old baby. As a mom, I was used to giving to everyone around me. I had been depleting myself and needed something to fulfill me. The first time I stepped onto my mat, I knew I found something special! I felt nourished! It was what I needed. I continued to practice and soon discovered that I had so much more to give to those who relied on me the most. When I was pregnant with my third child, I had the amazing opportunity to practice yoga under the guidance of my teacher Hilaire Lockwood. Prenatal yoga helped me come through pregnancy, labor and delivery with strength and grace. I also came through the experience knowing that I wanted to make yoga an even greater part of my life.
I feel very fortunate to have gone through Hilltop Yoga’s teacher training, with an apprenticeship in teaching prenatal yoga. I having been teaching prenatal yoga since September 2008 and through doing so, I have found so much joy. I have continued my training and completed my 500 hour teacher training through Hilltop Yoga and am registered with Yoga Alliance as a 500 hour teacher and as a Prenatal Yoga teacher. I am also Registered as an Experienced 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher. I continue to learn every day and have completed a Prenatal Teacher Training and Conscious Birthing Certification with Janice Clarfield. As a certified Prenatal Fitness Educator with the International Childbirth Education Association , I have solidified my understanding and knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the pregnant body and how it best reacts to exercise–I know how to keep my students safe.
I am excited about offering my knowledge to the yoga community through training workshops. I can help teachers with continuing their education and give provide and understanding of how to accommodate pregnant student in a general population class.
Pregnancy can be the perfect time to tap into one’s own power. It is a time to cultivate body awareness that comes about through the use of breath and movement. It is a time to tune into that deep connection between a mother and her baby. There is nothing like the experience! I am grateful for the opportunity to share this with the community.
